General Beta Info

As promised, here are the beta/release candidates for the new GTactix Update, including the all new GTactix Map Pack Creator (standalone map pack creation tool).  To use the beta version, simply download them to anywhere on your computer.  Note the following guidelines:

>Do not overwrite your current version of GTactix with this beta
>Place the GTactix.exe & GTactix Map Pack Creator.exe together in the same folder

Note: Since this is a beta, the launcher is not needed.  To run the beta simply open the GTactix.exe.  Check the forum periodically for any beta updates/news/info.

(links removed as the beta has been officially released... simply run the GTactix launcher to update to the newest version)

Some features are not fully implemented.  This is by design.  Such as:
+Replay and Undo functions only work in offline mode.

Any bugs/errors however, are NOT by design.  Please post them HERE (http://www.gtactix.com/forum/index.php?board=8.0), preferably with a screenshot, or copy/paste of the error message.

Map Pack Creator Notes:

Pack ID
The Pack ID is an internal identifier.  This is how the program tells one pack from another, even if the packs happen to have identical names.  The pack ID is created for you automatically when you create a new pack, and is independent of the map pack filename... you can name your map pack file whatever you want.  If you customize a map pack that you download from the vault, when you save it a new ID will be generated for you.  This is to prevent conflicts between your custom version, and the vault version of the pack.

.GTMP & .GTMV files
When you save a pack, you will find two files are created:
.GTMP = (GTactix Map Pack)  This is the main pack file with all the info, maps, icons, etc.  This IS the map pack.  If you want to send a map pack you have created to a friend, you only need to send them this file.
.GTMV = (GTactix Mappack Version)  In most cases you can ignore this file.  This is the pack version file, and is simply a text file which includes the version of the saved map pack, and the filename that it belongs to.  This is only needed if you want to host updates for custom map packs on your own web server.  More info on that later.

Hopefully that is enough to get you started.
I am exhausted and need to get some sleep.

Have fun and enjoy!!  Cool

p.s. You will currently only find two map packs in the vault (both for COD4).  I just converted these for testing.  The rest of the map packs will be converted soon... don't worry, they are not gone permanently. Wink

This is really great.  I just created a map pack for CoD5 World at War.  I will send it your way in just a sec.  The only problem I am having is that the maps are zoomed in to the top left corner.  Do I need to reduce the size?  Is there a maximum height and width to make them fit appropriately?  I want everyone to be able to use them, not just people with 10800x19200 resolution.  Yes, I know that I added an extra "0" to both numbers, I am just trying to emphasize how zoomed in the maps are.  Thanks for the help and great work.  I know that you are working on the other map packs getting uploaded; however, can I ask that you also update the Icons from the GTactix COD4 map pack as well.  I don' t think they are there and I really like them.  Thanks again.

Hey sorry for the delay in my reply Doc.
There really isn't a maximum size per say, though normally I would say to try and shoot for between 600x600 & 1024x1024.  That seems to give the best combination of detail & size.  Incidentally, I added another zoom option: 1/2x, which will be available in the new release so that will help a bit with larger maps as well.

Thank you for the pics btw they look great.  I will just resize them and add the icons in like you asked.
Looking forward to the release and getting this map pack out there... I know a lot of people will find this one useful.  Smiley

GTactix.exe beta version 2.0.0.2 is now available.
I have updated the file on the server, so the link is the same:

GTactix.exe Beta (http://www.gtactix.com/test/GTactix.exe)

--------------------------------------------------------

2.0.0.2  (Beta)
2/18/09
----------------
+added buttons to the pack creator to move icons up & down in the list to organize them
+fixed bug: map names showing filenames instead of labels when in folders
+fixed bug: disabled "save" in pack creator for official packs to prevent version conflicts with official map packs - use "save as" if you want to edit an official map pack
+Pack Creator "Save As" function saves a New copy of current map pack with new ID - prevents duplicate ID probs and potentially overwriting map pack
+fixed bug: runtime error when saving strat with no pack selected
+added feature: map packs no longer required to be installed to view saved strat files - map image and icons are embedded directly into the strat files for easier sharing.
+fixed bug: loading strat without having pack installed causing corruption if icons were used
+changed pack format: map pack filenames and "pack ID" no longer need to match
+fixed bug: switching to label view in pack creator if there are maps grouped in folders
+fixed bug: unhandled error when removing icons in pack creator
+fixed bug: error when hosting session in the 2.0.0.1 beta
+fixed bug: error when renaming items in pack creator in some cases, and items not auto-sorting
+fixed bug: unhandled error in pack creator when renaming map folder
+fixed bug: icon preview in Map Pack Creator not clearing
+fixed tab order in main Map Pack Creator window
+fixed bug: 'save img' while zoomed screws up shape scaling & doesn't save as 'zoomed'
+fixed bug: zoom function not working properly in online sessions
+fixed bug: right-clicking map pack performs menu functions without loading the map pack
+added genre-based banner support
+added custom banner & link objects to pack class to support sponsored map packs
+added email object to map pack class
