If you are interested in submitting a map pack for addition to the vault, here are some tips/requests that will help get it up as soon as possible.

Picture Sizes
Try to make the dimensions of all the maps in the pack the same.  I try to stay close to the default map area size because it makes them small enough that most people can view the whole map without having to scroll, but when you zoom in you still get a good amount of detail.
The default map area size is 664x633.  I know, kind of an odd size but that's how it worked out.
As a working example, I resized the BF2142 maps from 1280x1024 to 791x633.  This kept the ratio the same but made them fit much nicer in the map area.

Picture Names
Try to give each pic a descriptive enough name that I can accurately set the name that will show in the map list.  Also, if you have more than one pic for each map, include the name of the map in the filename.
An example from Belgrade in BF2142:
Belgrade_-_ComTower_left.jpg
Belgrade_-_Playground_right.jpg

Icons
These can be the most time consuming as I usually try to get some of the in-game icons to include in the pack.  This means loading the game, taking screenshots, and then trying to extract good quality icons from those screenshots.
I have started making a generic collection of icons that could apply and be useful in any pack in case I don't have actual in-game icons for it, so this is step is not that critical.

If you do want to include icons, they need to be 25x25 pixels, and I usually save them as PNG's since transparencies turn out pretty good that way - though you could save them in any format you want really.

Once you have it all ready, just zip it up and either email it to me (vr6r at gtactix.com), or upload it through the forum here (if it's under 15mb) and I'll take it from there.

There is some back-end work that right now I need to do manually (making an xml file for the pack and entering pack info into the database), but I will be making a Pack Creation utility sometime soon that should make this whole process much faster and easier for everyone, and will automate most of the tedious bits.

Thanks everyone!  Grin

A compilation and import facility would be very welcome.

This pack, should then be able to be manually installed.

Eg: I have a upcoming clan match. I go and compile a full briefing containing screenies and overheads.
This I then compile into a "map pack" and send it off to the other members, which then cuts down on
time wasted due to uploading manually.

I'd also like to be able to make my own Map Packs for a game, and use it as such without having to download it.

I am really looking forward to that, as I tried to add my own map pack in the xml file and edited all as i seem needed, and it keeps giving me errors inside gtactix. Besides the common ones ofc.
Even with the xml edited and the map pack appearing inside the program i cant make use of it online... server crashes automatically, i dont know if the program 1st connects to any verification server to autenticate content or what is giving me that problem is really odd.

The MapCreator does not show maps in .png format. I have got it to work with .jpg and you can rename your .png to .jpg and it will work.  Thanks for the awesome utility.

Yeah, we need a new map creation tool Huh

I think the xml file for the map packages and xml for keeping track of the installed map packages have to be redesigned.

Some of my ideas:

The Map Creation Tool should contain/support:
- Import of images (more then one at the time)
- Automatic image resizing
- Conversion to png
- Renaming of images
- Overview of "map folders"
- Add text to image feature
- Finalizing map package packing feature

The xml in the map packages should contain/support:
- Use of special characters like (&%*/)
- Physical sub folders (blabla/img.jpg)
- Naming of "map folders" with spaces.

The GTactix xml should contain/support:
- Name of author
- Date added
- Game name
- Package version
- Description

The current map pack creator does not work with all image formats.  PNG's work fine, but I believe it does not recognize jpg's or gif's.  Save your images as png's and everything will work perfectly.

Sorry for sounded a bit thick.

But where do you get the game guides from and would they show the custom map overviews.  Also what is an Offical Fan Pack.  Boy do I sound silly asking these questions.

The websites you use are they clan sites or are there proper map sites I maybe able to get them from.

Cheesr for help so far hoppie

Game guides - you buy them or borrow them from friends.
In-game screenshots - take them yourself, get them from clan or fan websites.
Official Fan Packs - from the official game website, or from various game news sites.
